Teacher Feature: Meet  Mr. Blake Boen

This year we have the opportunity to meet a lot of new faces around our school. One of them is Mr. Blake Boen. He has taken on the role of high school gym and health education teacher for this year.

Q. Can you tell us about yourself and where you are from?
A. I grew up in Thief River Falls, MN and have lived there most of my life. I ended up moving to Bemidji for a couple years for school. After attending I moved here.

Q. Did you always want to be a teacher?
A. Growing up I never really knew what I wanted to be, until probably my senior year of high school. I had a lot of great teachers. My English teacher and my choir teacher really motivated me to become a teacher one day. Just because they really impacted my life and I want to do the same for students as well. 

Q. What were you like in high school?
A. I went to Lincoln High School in Thief River Falls. I was a very active kid, and played a bunch of sports. I participated in basketball, baseball, football, cross country, and golf. It was busy, but I love sports.

Q. Where did you go to college?
A. I graduated from Bemidji State. I was there for 3 years and I also went to one year of Junior College in Thief River Falls. I was also a student teacher at the high school in Bemidji.

Q. What are you looking forward to this school year?
A. I am looking forward to getting to know the students since I am new here. I also want to go to a lot of sporting events. I want to try my best to take it all in during my first year here.

Q. Can you tell us something interesting about yourself?
A. My favorite food is ice cream. I eat it almost every night. It's my go to and I love it! Golfing is my favorite hobby. I also like to grouse hunt, deer hunt, and fish. I officiate high school basketball in the area too.
